2009 Radio Award Winners Announced

Station of the Year Winners:

The Gospel Music Association (GMA) has announced the winners for the 2009 GMA/CMB Radio Station of the Year contest.  The radio station awards are presented to those Christian radio stations that meet the highest standards of quality and have the strongest impact on their listening areas.  Awards are given to major, large, medium and small market stations.

The 2009 Station of the Year Winners are:

Major Market - WPOZ/Orlando, FL - Dean O'Neal, Station Manager

Large Market - WMHK/Columbia, SC - John Owens, Station Manager

Medium Market - WRCM/Charlotte, SC - Joe Paulo, Station Manager

Small Market - WLAB/Fort Wayne, IN - Melissa Montana, Station Manager

The recipient in each market category was determined by a panel of judges who reviewed the following areas - community involvement, ratings, air checks, and industry leadership.

These radio stations will be acknowledged during the 40th Annual GMA Dove Awards on April 23, 2009 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN.  The Dove awards are the culminating event for GMA Music Week 2009, which includes radio specific programming through the CMB.  The Dove Awards are scheduled for live broadcast on the Gospel Music Channel.

Station of the Year Finalists Announced

The Gospel Music Association (GMA) has announced the finalists for the 2009 GMA/Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB) Radio Station of the Year contest. The radio station awards are designed to publicly acknowledge those Christian radio stations that meet the highest standards of quality and have the strongest impact on their listening areas.   Awards are given to major, large, medium and small market stations.  The winners in each market category will be determined by a panel of judges who review the following areas - community involvement, ratings, air-check and industry leadership.  

Major Market

  • KCMS - Seattle/Tacoma, WA - Stan Mak, Station Manager
  • KTIS - Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - David Fitts, Station Manager
  • WPOZ - Orlando, FL - Dean O'Neal, Station Manager  

Large Market*

  • WDJC - Birmingham, AL - Laura Scotti, Station Manager
  • WMHK - Columbia, SC - John Owens, Station Manager  

Medium Market*

  • KKCM - Tulsa, OK - Dan Lawrie, Station Manager
  • WRCM - Charlotte/Gastonia/Rock Hill, NC/SC - Joe Paulo, Station Manager 

Small Market

  • KGCB - Flagstaff/Prescott, AZ - Stephen R. White, Station Manager
  • WCVK - Bowling Green, KY - Mike Wilson, Station Manager
  • WLAB - Fort Wayne, IN - Melissa Montana, Station Manager  

* Due to the number of qualified entries, the Large Market and Medium Market categories only have two finalists.   

GMA will notify the winners before the 40th Annual GMA Dove Awards on April 23, 2009.  The winners will be acknowledged during the GMA Dove Awardsx2019; broadcast.  The GMA Dove Awards are the culminating event for GMA Music Week 2009, which will be held at various locations in downtown Nashville from April 18-22, 2009 and include radio specific programming through the Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB).  Registration information for GMA Music Week can be found at www.gospelmusic.org.

The 2008 winners were: KLRC - Fayetteville, AR for Small Market;  KTSY - Boise, ID for Medium Market;  WPOZ - Orlando, FL for Large Market and KSBJ - Houston for Major Market.
