THE AGENDA
MONDAY, JULY 20
9:00 – 9:30 Reception
9:30 – 10:05 The God Who Smokes – Tim Stoner. In an age where radio stations bend over backwards in their quest to appeal to listeners, Tim reminds us there’s at least one thing that won’t bend in His appeal – Jesus. It’s that very “inflexible” rule that sets your station up to not just present the “best” choice in listening, but really the only true choice.
10:05 – 10:25 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to communicate the compelling case for “only choice” over “best choice.”
10:30 – 11:05 Irresistible Message In The Hands of A Resistant People – Tim Stoner. If Christians have the world’s most irresistible Message, then how is it that more people are not tuned in? Tim will prep us to discuss the less obvious reasons as to why, and how we might begin addressing these challenges.
11:05 – 11:25 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to keep from alienating non-Christians from listening.
11:30 – 11:55 The Silver Bullet To Mass Appeal – Tim Stoner. Tim brings to light the key factors of Jesus’ mass appeal and the culture that both embraced and denied it, factors and counsel for your team to consider how it might serve in the future.
12:00 – 12:55 LUNCH catered by AppleBee’s
1:00 – 1:50 Critical Concerns Effecting All Of Radio – TBA. From streaming costs to performance taxes to a revised Fairness Doctrine, today’s radio station faces some of its greatest challenges from some of what were its strongest allies. A must attend session for all complete with Q&A and points of action to consider for both you and your listeners.
2:00 – 2:35 Unsafe For The Whole Family, But Still Good For It – Chuck Finney. In C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, it was Mr. Beaver who said that Aslan wasn’t safe at all, but he was good. Chris suggests that by emphasizing family friendly programming, we may be de-emphasizing the real goodness and security found in only Christ.
2:35 – 2:55 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to better reflect a more correct image of Christ.
3:00 – 3:35 Part 1: Offended, or Ashamed? Who Really Doesn’t Want To Hear About Jesus? – Chuck Finney. In a quest to be less “preachy” and more approachable, one might say Christian radio has planned, condensed and delivered its talk into either short bursts of benign content between songs. Chuck will delve into how a more direct yet sincere approach of communicating Christ may not only be less offensive but more effective in getting more listeners.
3:35 – 3:55 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to more directly yet sincerely communicate Christ.
4:00 – 4:35 Part 2: Offended, or Ashamed? Who Really Doesn’t Want To Talk About Jesus? – Chuck Finney. Could it be that Christ is offensive to listeners because those who represent Him at our station may not be adequately equipped to do so? Chuck will center on the need of a Christian in Christian radio to always be prepared and able to compellingly share his faith, just as he would be in performing basic great radio.
4:35 – 4:55 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to more directly encourage spiritual growth on an individual basis.
5:30 – 6:30 DINNER
TUESDAY, JULY 21
8:30 – 9:00 Reception
9:00 – 9:35 Ready… Fire! Aim… – Brian Wright. As a Christian radio station serving the community, what is your specific purpose for existence, and does every one on your team know that purpose and is zealously executing it? Brian will introduce ways for each area of your station to build team unity and zeal regarding the station’s mission, and for building the team’s spiritual health as well.
9:35 – 9:55 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to more directly encourage spiritual growth on an individual basis.
10:00 – 10:35 Christian Radio Isn’t Church, But Try Telling That To Your Listener – John Frye. Recent Barna research suggests that more people are serviced each week with Christian media then go to church. John will lead a discussion affirming media’s magnetism and perceived benefit over church while exploring ways for media to call listeners to true community.
10:35 – 10:55 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to better partner with local churches.
11:00 – 11:35 Jesus’ Prayer For Unity, And What Radio Can Do – John Frye. One of Jesus’ final prayers revolved around the unity of Believers. Ed will explore the possibility of what could happen if Christian radio stations set the example in coming together with local churches for key community events.
11:35 – 11:55 Application – Break into small groups and discuss what our stations can do to better partner with each other and local churches for the growth of God’s kingdom.
11:55 – 1:00 LUNCH
